Distilia Unveils the Latest Addition to “The Sins” Series

Distilia, in collaboration with independent spirits curator Robert Bauer, presents Sloth – the sixth edition in the critically acclaimed “The Sins” series. This release introduces a rare and powerful expression of agricole rhum from Marie Galante, crafted with traditional methods and aged for over a decade under tropical conditions.

A Unique Agricole Rhum from the Heart of Marie Galante

Sloth is a 13-year-old rhum distilled in 2012 from long-fermented sugarcane juice using creole Müller bain-marie pot stills. It was created by Michele Lunardon at the RRL distillery – an independent, small-scale operation hidden deep in the lush landscape of Marie Galante, Guadeloupe. After tropical aging in ex-cognac casks, the spirit was bottled at natural cask strength (58.8% ABV), unfiltered and undiluted, to preserve its full aromatic intensity.

This expression delivers complex notes of smoky spice, honeyed sweetness, aromatic herbs, overripe mango, mint, and precious wood, with the vibrant “Gwada” energy that characterizes exceptional rhum agricole. Only 185 bottles have been released, making it a true collector’s item and the only known independent bottling of its kind.

About RRL Distillery

The RRL distillery is a boutique-y, independently run micro-distillery, originally founded on the grounds of Bielle Distillery before later relocating to Pere Labat Distillery on Marie Galante – one of the Caribbean’s most authentic rum-producing islands. Renowned for its long fermentation and double distillation in two Müller bain-marie stills, RRL crafts small-batch agricole rhums with exceptional depth and a uniquely distinctive character. Highlights of Previous Editions

To date, the series has included five notable releases. The first, The Sins – Lust, is a 1967 Armagnac from Château Garreau in Bas Armagnac, France, offering a bold and intense profile. The second, The Sins – Avarice, is an award-winning 40-year-old rum distilled at Long Pond in Jamaica in 1983, later named Rum of the Year 2024. The third, The Sins – Gluttony, features a 1964 Calvados Domfrontais from Christian Drouin in France, capturing a remarkable nose and unbeatable richness.

The fourth, The Sins – Envy, is a rare 30-year-old Springbank Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in a refill sherry cask and bottled at natural cask strength, showcasing unparalleled craftsmanship. The most recent release, The Sins – Vanity, is a 1980 vintage Cognac from Maison Lhéraud, distilled in Petite Champagne and matured for 44 years. Officially sealed and certified as a “Vintage” Cognac. Together, these editions celebrate unique spirit traditions while honoring their individual stories.
