Admiral Imports appointed exclusive importer Jacopo Biondi Santi

Admiral Imports is pleased to announce that Jacopo Biondi Santi, the heir to one of the most prestigious wine families in Italy, has appointed Admiral Imports as its new exclusive USA importer effective March 1, 2010.

Jacopo Biondi Santi, the great-grandson of Brunello's father Ferruccio Biondi Santi and son of the extraordinary Brunello producer Franco Biondi Santi, has taken his family's tradition and philosophy on high quality wines to new heights. His first wines were produced at his father's Montalcino estate in 1991. Shortly after in 1996, Jacopo Biondi Santi founded his own estate in Maremma at the Castle of Montepo where he commissioned a group of experts to perform microclimatic and soil studies of the territory at his estate. This study has been recognized by various authoritative bodies as one of the most complete and futuristic ever to have been implemented by a winery.

Oenologists, geologists, meteorologists and analysts from various disciplines collected thousands of parameters that, altogether analyzed, provide specific and complete knowledge of every “parcel” of vineyard considered at the historical estate. This study allowed the enhancement of the characteristics of the grape varietals that were planted including the family-owned clone Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), a clone resulting from 200 years of selection in the micro zones of their family estates in Montalcino.

Today, Jacopo Biondi Santi's line consists of his flagships “Sassoaloro,” a 100% BBS11 wine aged for 14 months in non-toasted barrique for a suggested $29.99 and “Schidione” a blend of BBS11 (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Merlot (20%) aged in barrique for two years for a suggested $189.99; two wines from near Scansano: Castello di Montepo Morellino di Scansano DOC Riserva for a suggested $39.99 and “Montepaone,” a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon refined in barrique for 18 months for a suggested $115.99; and two newer wines: “Safiro,” a Sauvignon Blanc with a suggested retail price of $24.99 and “Braccale,” a BBS11 (80%) and Merlot (20%) blend aged in barrique for a suggested $19.99.

Jacopo Biondi Santi's wines had previously been available in the USA for the past 17 years under another importer. “This new partnership with Admiral Imports will give our wines the same attention to detail in the USA marketplace as I give to their production,” said Mr. Biondi Santi.
