Luigi Bosca Outpaces the Argentine Wine Category with 72% Surge in 2008 Shipments

Amidst tough economic news worldwide, Argentine wine shipments continue to post healthy results. 2008 has been a particularly significant year for Luigi Bosca wines of Argentina.

A leader in the premium wine segment in their native country, Luigi Bosca has reported a 72% increase in case volume and an 85% increase in the value of their U.S. wine shipments, outpacing the Argentine category two-to-one. With roots that go back more than a century under the Arizu family, Bodega Luigi Bosca has remained a family run enterprise becoming the benchmark for quality wines from Mendoza and one of the most dynamic wine producers of Argentina. The recent surge in Argentine exports to the U.S. has particularly favored quality wineries like Luigi Bosca; between 2005 and 2007 Argentine wines priced over $10 grew 131% in volume, compared to 29% in the under-$10 range.

The 2008 sales further showcase the continued popularity of Malbec, the strongest Argentine varietal, with 59% growth. Luigi Bosca was the first winery to export a Malbec from the Lujan de Cuyo area of Mendoza, and also offers an extensive selection of unique varietals, including Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Tempranillo. Reflecting the winery's iconic status, the Luigi Bosca Pinot Noir was the highest growth varietal for the winery, up 97% in shipments to the U.S.
